The creations of an outstanding Russian sculptor

Alexander Nickolaevich Burganov –

A National Artist of Russia, member of the Russian Academy of Fine Arts, laureate of State Prize of USSR, cavalier of State rewards and orders of Russia and Russian Orthodox Church, Doctor of Arts, professor, etc.

Burganov A.N. was born in 1935 in Baku and was graduated from Moscow State Stroganov University of Industrial and Applied Arts. He works in monumental and easel sculpture, graphics; he is the author of literary works, scientific articles and monographic studies on the theory of the fine arts.

Burganov A.N. is one of the founders of Stroganov School of architectural and decorative plastics. During almost a semi centennial period of teaching, he formed a particular movement in native monumental art, recognized as “Burganov’s composition school”. This movement wounded not only monumental and easel sculpture, but also painting, applied arts, graphics. At present time A.N. Burganov is the Head of Monumental sculpture department in Moscow State Stroganov Academy of Industrial and Applied Arts.

Alexander Burganov is a worldwide known sculptor. His works of art are installed in the largest cities of Russia: Moscow, Izhevsk, Voronej, Oryol, etc. and abroad: in the USA, France, Belgium, Germany, Mongolia, Italy and others.

Burganov’s sculptures beautify our Capital. This is the Moscower’s favorite monument “A. Pushkin and N. Goncharova” and the fountain “Princess Tourandot”, placed on Old Arbat; monuments to M. Ju. Lermontov, I.A. Bunin, the founder of Academy of music E.F. Gnessina which is recognized as one of the most beautiful monuments of Moscow; sculptural ensemble of Ukrainian boulevard; flying bird – emblem of the Central House of Cinema; sculptural décor of Moscow Metro stations “Bratislavskaya”, “Lublino”, “Tretiakovskaya” (the gallery of famous Russian artists’ portraits); and many others.

A.N. Burganov’s works of art are kept in State Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow), The Pushkin State museum of Fine Arts (Moscow), The Russian Museum (Saint-Petersburg), The Ludwig Forum of international Art (Aachen, Germany), State Fine Arts Museum of Mongolia (Ulaanbaatar), Sofia State Museum of Fine Arts (Bulgaria), collection of modern sculpture of city of Aranzhelovets (Yugoslavia), Royal Museum of Fine Arts (Belgium), fine art collection of Palace of Nations (Geneva, Switzerland), and in other state and private collections of Russia, France, Germany, USA, Belgium, Italy.

The status of a state museum is assigned to the creative workshop of A.N. Burganov.
